Kat Wall Statement on Republican Party of Texas Censure of State Rep. Angelia Orr

Orr calls party leaders ‘RINOs,’ but her voting record shows a history of anti-conservative positions

CENTERVILLE, TX — Today, Kathaleen Wall, Republican candidate for Texas House District 13, commented on the recent censure of her opponent, Angelia Orr, by the Republican Party of Texas. Her statement comes in the wake of Orr’s reckless comments to The Waco Tribune, where she characterized party leaders as “RINOs.”

“I was not planning on commenting on the censure resolutions various county Republican Parties have filed against my opponent, State Rep. Angelia Orr. But when she called it a ‘witch hunt’ by a bunch of RINOs, I had to speak up,” said Kat Wall, who is running to unseat Orr in the 13th District of Texas.

“Even Democrats in rural Texas know how to talk conservative: actually voting conservative and following through on your word is a whole different thing,” Wall added. “Rep. Orr has mastered how to talk conservative, while her actions show the opposite. If she had made a habit of actually voting conservative, I would not have entered this race, and a majority of the county Republican Chairs in this district would not have publicly endorsed me for the nomination. We have seen her votes and know she is not a friend of rural Texas.”

For context, here are three key votes Orr took that go against conservative values:

  1. Orr says she wants foreigners from hostile countries to be barred from buying up land in Texas, but she voted for the Shaheen Amendment, which would have allowed those foreigners to buy as much land as they wanted – even though Texas already has the most land owned by nationals from hostile nations of any state in the country.
  2. Orr says she wants to end DEI and transgender ideology, but in 2023, she was one of 11 Republicans who voted to continue state funding for 13 hospitals, which were doing social transitioning therapies for transgenders.
  3. SB 8, known as “the bathroom bill, that Orr so proudly brags about was authored by State Rep. Valerie Swanson, who had it taken away from her by Orr’s RINO ally, Speaker Dustin Burrows, and given to Orr so that she would have a conservative bill after almost four years of little accomplishment. Even when she did something conservative, she did not originate the idea or lead the fight.

“I have never heard a conservative politician calling members of the Republican Party of Texas ‘RINOs,’ because it couldn’t be further from the truth. The Republican Party of Texas fights every day for conservative values, something I vow to do as the representative for HD-13. Orr is using Democrat-style tactics of ‘accuse your opponents of what you are doing.’ This clearly shows that she is projecting – the real RINO in the race is Angelia Orr.”

“Orr had promised teachers she would not vote for vouchers until the Governor made her a better offer – kind of like the way she was against casino gambling in Texas until the Sands Casino made her a better offer,” Wall added. “If she makes you a promise, you better hope no one makes her a better offer.”

“Orr may think she can hide her record with surface-level conservative talking points, but that record is not going to go away. We have the proof and we will keep exposing it.
